Bring Back The Classics!
This discussion about when ‘Knight Rider’ will be shown again got me thinking. Someone in the forum mentioned how TV channels have an obligation to fans of certain shows and I think that this is absolutely right. If it hadn’t been for the masses of people who had watched programmes the first time round then the channels would no longer be in business.
Zone Thriller recently showed every episode of ‘Starsky and Hutch’ in order. And from what I can make out, it still attracted an awful lot of viewers. I wonder why it is that more channels do not follow suit? There are so many brilliant programmes to choose from in their archives. Lots of things that were hugely popular years ago would still bring in a massive amount of viewers today.
The original series of ‘Star trek’ is being shown at the moment (remastered!) so maybe some of the TV channels are starting to realise they are actually sitting on a wealth of ‘retro treasures’. When it comes to finding out what sort of programmes the public want to see, it isn’t exactly difficult. If they spend half an hour checking-out a cult TV forum such as ‘Playback’ then they will soon know exactly which repeats to air.
So, if they finally get the message, what would we like to see? Personally I would love to watch things like; ‘Sapphire and Steel’, ‘Blake’s 7’ and the old ‘Day of the Triffids’ serial. But there are all kinds of possibilities… What about, ‘Thirtysomething’, ‘A Very Peculiar Practice’ or ‘Twin Peaks’. And a lot of the old comedies would still be enormously popular as well. Who is there that does not like ‘The Two Ronnies’, ‘Morecambe and Wise’ or ‘Benny Hill’?
Come on you TV channels; get digging in your archives!!
